We
spent half a day to explore the Kings Park and Botanic
Garden, Lake Monger Reserve and Herdsman
Lake Regional
Park.

Kings Park and Botanic Garden
Kings Park and Botanic Garden is
located in West Perth, a short distance from
Perth CBD. It is one of the world’s largest and most beautiful inner city
parks. Kings
Park is rich in
Aboriginal and European history, contemporary culture and offers innovative
design, displays and services. It has an international reputation for
scientific research, leading horticulture, conservation and public education.
Kings Park is home to the
spectacular Western
Australian Botanic
Garden, which displays over 3,000 species of the
State’s unique flora. Two thirds of the 400 hectare park is protected as
bushland and provides a haven for native biological diversity.
Visitors
can enjoy sweeping views of the Swan and Canning
Rivers, the city skyline and the Darling Ranges to the east. Bushland walk
trails, immaculate gardens and parklands and a variety of children’s discovery
play areas can all be found in Kings
Park.

Lake Monger Reserve
Lake Monger is a large
urban wetland on the Swan Coastal Plain in suburban Perth. It is located about 5 km from Perth CBD. The 110 hectares of
lake and the surrounding parklands are known as the Lake Monger Reserve. The
lake is used extensively for recreation and is a major tourist attraction with
up to 12,000 visitors per week. A 3.8
km paved walking/cycling track encircles the lake which takes
about 50 minutes by foot. Ample car parking, playground equipment and barbecue
facilities are also provided.

Herdsman Lake Regional
Park
Herdsman Lake is a
freshwater lake located on the Swan Coastal Plain. It is 6 km north-west of Perth, in the suburb of Herdsman. The lake is
encompassed by Herdsman
Lake Regional
Park. It measures 2.5 km in length and 2 km in width. Attractions within
the park include the Olive Seymour Boardwalk, Herdsman Lake Wildlife Centre and
Settler's Cottage. The lake is a wildlife sanctuary. Walking, cycling,
picnicking, bird watching and wildflower spotting are popular activities in the
park.
